I hope everyone had a good holiday. Some of you may celebrate with friends and family, some of you may not. We don’t. When my kids were probably around 11 or 12, we realized that their autism made change almost intolerable to them. That’s any change: Change in season, change in daylight savings time, changes in our daily schedule, someone getting sick, plans changing, holidays … any little change. So in order to minimize the stress of change as much as possible, we stopped celebrating holidays and even birthdays. We still recognize the person on their birthday and have a cake, but that’s it. There’s no singing or big fuss. Instead of a big party with presents, presents are given through the year “just because” instead of for a specific holiday. I like it better that way anyway. It feels more special to me instead of being forced to buy tons of presents for one day.
This Thanksgiving is a little different. Both of my sons have their own apartments (I’m so proud of them!). So I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for everyone and delivered it to each of their homes. We visited for a few minutes, and that was it. Easy and stress-free for everyone. That’s also the way we’ll be celebrating Christmas.
It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that we couldn’t have a big holiday get-together and be “normal,” but now I’ve realized that every family is different and that’s okay. I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to let go of all that stress. It’s awesome being different!
Here’s a little video I made on the holidays and school and how it’s okay to be different:
Hope you all have a good holiday in your own way.

Sorry to those of you not on Facebook. This is the best platform for me to reach the most people at this time.
Please know that this is my last resort. Thank you for taking the time to check out my GoFundMe campaign. I am not asking for a handout. Each gift tier has a thank you gift.
Suncatcher Craft Eyes have been providing the arts and crafts community with craft eyes for over 10 years. I offer craft eyes in sizes 4.5mm up to 40mm with round pupils and 7.5mm up to 24mm for cat/reptile style eyes. Color styles include black, clear, opaque, shimmer, and translucent as well as sleepy eyes, pinwheels, stripes, and other designs.
These craft eyes are used in puppets, soft toys, dolls, bears, and amigurumi. I have the pleasure of working with incredible artists and crafters from around the world and have the honor of being a small part in their projects. My dream ever since I was little was to have a job where I could play with color all day, and it came true!
Thanks to my amazing customers, Suncatcher Craft Eyes is my full-time business with a large Facebook following.
While I am truly grateful for the growth of my business, it’s also a financial struggle this year to keep it growing. Let me explain why:
I try my best to keep every size of craft eyes in stock to meet every customer’s needs. In order to do that, I have to buy those sizes in advance. The down side of this is that they must be purchased by the thousands from the manufacturer. I can’t just by 20 pair of something.
That’s where things get tricky. There is only one manufacturer in another country. The exchange rate has gotten worse over the years, so that makes purchasing from them even more expensive.
In order to keep up with how much my business is growing and customer demand, I have to place larger orders with the manufacturer as well. Here is where I need your help.
Suncatcher Craft Eyes needs help raising $1600 in the next 2 weeks to pay for the next order of craft eyes to be stocked up for the holiday season. Right now I don’t know where this money is coming from because I’m helping support some family members right now and there isn’t enough of my own money to put more into the business.
The switch from slow season (spring and summer months) to busy season (fall and winter) is a huge adjustment. Sales at least double and more likely triple during this time. I need to have the stock on hand to be sure everyone receives the size of craft eyes they order.
I won’t say Suncatcher Craft Eyes will close if this Go Fund Me campaign isn’t successful, but it will be a real struggle to get through the holiday season. My business has stuck it out, supporting my family for the past 10 years. Once I am over this hurdle, I know that the future is bright for Suncatcher Craft Eyes, and hopefully I can provide my craft eyes to you for a very long time to come.
